I Didn't Go to Egypt to See the Pyramids

With the exception of a few close friends, most people I told about an impending trip to Egypt were shocked. They were even more surprised to learn that I wanted to stay, for an extended amount of time. But when they asked why, I had no answer. I could only explain that I was NOT going to Egypt just so I could snap a few pictures with pyramids, gawk at local cuisines or follow the well worn trails of tourists circulating through the country like a passing gust of wind.

Dear Louis CK

I wrote a letter to Louis CK. Granted, I have no idea how to write a letter to someone like him. I say this because I acknowledge someone like me wouldn’t even register in his world. But, I wrote it anyway.

OG Daffy Duck is My Spirit Animal

I could go on and gush nostalgic about being fortunate enough to spend a great deal of my childhood weekends watching all kinds of cartoons, thanks in part to the Saturday morning Fox tribe at my parents house, then meeting up with the Warner Bros and Cartoon Network tribes later in the day at my grandparent’s house. They had cable. Later I would discover the much more adult themed tribes of HBO and Cinemax cartoons like Jack Off and the Beanstalk and I Married A Strange Person, playing in the wee hours of Sunday morning before going to church with my grandparents.

Despite the sheer amount of super heroics, insane siblings and scientific boy geniuses I crammed into my brain throughout childhood, there is one cartoon character that, to this very minute of this very day continues to rule them all; the OG Daffy Duck.

Understanding What Inspires Me

It’s easy to see what inspires a person, but it’s much more challenging to understand why and how a person is inspired by such things. In my first blog post, I emphasized how I felt as though my life, up until this point, hasn’t made much sense. Having said that, several guiding principles have grown to become constants throughout a large portion of my life. These guides are also what influence a decent amount of my writing as well.
