Brycical's Big Announcement

Workin' on it

For the last several months, once in a while the goddess (what I call my g/f for reasons explained elsewhere) will comment that, for all the writing I do, everyone only sees a minuscule amount of what I'm actually working on.

Those words deeply resonated with me. I realized it seems kinda silly that so many only see so little of all the projects, thoughts and ideas going on inside my mind.  How is anyone supposed to get excited about what I'm working on when I'm simply waiting to share all my ideas in finished form? Here's a good example; I've been telling a bunch of friends about a few short stories I'm working on, and the majority of their responses have been something along the lines of curious interest. But when they inevitably ask "when can I read some of these stories?" all I've been able to respond with is, "Well, I'm workin' on it."

I hope to change this. I need to change this.

This wouldn't be the first time the goddess has said something that's totally rocked my world, but I digress. You see, the original purpose of this website was to simply corral the majority of my writing into one place. It seemed like a good idea at the time, as I could kind of use my website as a makeshift portfolio, keeping all things Brycical together. I think, in that respect, I've mostly succeeded.

The problem was, I hadn't really thought about where to drop any of the longer form stories I'd been working on. There is a reason for this oversight though, which is based on the fact that I didn't realize I was still, in a way, programmed to think about publishing these other stories in an old school way. What I mean is, part of me was still clinging to the idea that I had to go through the old school system of writing and editing a story, shopping it around, get it bought and then published somewhere.

But it's taken me a while to admit that this model is outdated. I know, I'm sure there are people out there who might read and think to themselves…

But it's important to also understand that I'm learning; I'm workin' on it. I see now that I've been going at this writing thing in a similar way to how George Carlin explained that, in the beginning of his comedy career, he attempted to pursue his "mainstream dream" despite the model and times changing profoundly as he was developing his act. Granted, I am no George Carlin, but it's nice to have a reference.

My point being, I'm trying to adapt. I'm workin' on it. So, in the interest of adapting, but also so I can share more of my stories with everyone, I'm happy to announce that I will be sharing some bits and pieces of these longer stories with everyone.

I will be sharing exclusively excerpts of stories and other #workinprogress stories on my blog, which will not link to Medium like all my other posts up until this point. These new creative writing posts will be marked and exist on my website for a limited amount of time. Sorry, you'll just have to buy the books to know how these stories end. But, you will be able to comment or even make suggestions on the stories. Like, if you don't like how a character's story arc is progressing, you can say something and I will for sure take it into consideration. I can't promise I will make all changes people suggest, but I will at least hear it out.

If you're into the Medium stories, I will still be posting partial posts linking to Medium. These posts will still exist to share the more autobiographical aspects of my life, as well as whatever random thoughts or rants erupt from my mind. Those will almost always be available, barring some major brouhaha.

If you are or know someone who is a voracious reader of words, you or they should subscribe now! In the meantime, all I can do is promise you will be jumping into different stories quite soon; within the next two weeks soon. After that, you can expect regular updates.
