After much deliberation, I decided THIS week would be the LAST week of Chronicling the Coronavirus in San Antonio, the greater state of Texas as a whole and my thoughts on all of this. Thought it would be best for my own sanity, as the news and the people’s reaction to said news are increasingly disheartening and maddening. Also, I decided to stop this blog because Government officials in Texas seem hell-bent on reopening just about everything ahead of schedule while also playing favorites for some but not other businesses as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise throughout Texas.
But should events move the way some Texas health officials are predicting as Texas officials continue easing stay at home restrictions and reopening many stores, then I could be back Chronicling again after a few weeks have gone by. We'll see.
Celebrated my birthday with Erika Paradise and enjoyed a psychedelic cake made by her sister, Alina. Also enjoyed some Mediterranean food from Dallah, recommended by Erika's brother Ulises.
Fifi the cat could care less about most of this as long as she gets her meals and can sleep in her cardboard box. But she is pretty cute, especially when she wants to play.
While not as inflammatory as the headline makes out, it's still frustrating to see / hear The Daily Beast's story about Gov Abbott of Texas talk in circles about why it's essential to get back Texans back to work and how "pretty much every scientific and medical report shows that whenever you have a reopening ... it actually will lead to an increase in spread. It's almost ipso facto ... The goal never has been to get COVID-19 transmission down to zero." It almost makes it seem like maybe Gov. Abbott of Texas is part of the capitalist death cult of which his Lt Governor is also a member.
It's also equally frustrating to see how many Texans have their priorities in all the wrong places. Good job Texas. I get people are bored and frustrated, but it's disheartening to see how many people don't seem to care about something pretty serious. Like, imagine if when tragedy struck the World Trade buildings, many of the people inside were like “Hey, let's go to that really good coffee place. I hear the line is shorter than usual.”
Glad to see so many states are not even following the shoddy guidelines put out by an administration that barely gives a shit. It's not like easing stay at home restrictions too soon could have some potentially disastrous effects on people and families living in these places.
Weeks ago, Governor Abbott said that reopening Texas would be a “slow process.” But now he feels like the data is on his side. So the Texas Governor decided to ease more restrictions ahead of schedule as the number of Coronavirus cases in Texas continues to rise. Can't imagine what could go wrong. But thank sweet baby jesus we’re getting the economy going again. (sarcasm)
Fifi the cat doesn’t understand why I’m so frustrated and moody recently, as she feels like there’s enough string to play with, random cardboard boxes or corners in the bathroom in which to sleep that everybody should be happy, right? But mostly, Fifi the cat can’t understand why we don’t open up the patio door whenever she silently stares forlornly out the window.
If you've read any of the past weeks of this blog, it turns out many people w/in The Trump Administration did see this coming. What more frustrating however, is that if action was taken when we saw this coming, many more lives could have been saved.
Oh look, some partial good news coming from San Antonio. Some health officials are saying that San Antonio has “flattened the curve” of the Coronavirus spread. So hooray…?
In some related good news, so far, no homeless person in San Antonio has tested positive for the the coronavirus so far. So…. hooray?
Like the Gov. of Texas, the 45th President of the U.S. vaguely acknowledged that people will die as more places ease restrictions, but that it's more important for “warriors” to go back to work. Keep in mind this is also the same President who charges lodging to the Secret Service (his personal warriors that are paid to protect his life). This is also the same President that mused about injecting disinfectants into the body to do a tremendous number on the lungs. This is also the same President who predicted the Coronavirus would be miraculously gone in April.
The 45th President of the United States said that he didn't think Nationwide testing was necessary to ease stay at home orders or reopen the country, despite the fact that back in April a White House spokesperson told the media that anyone expected to be in close proximity to the Prez or VP will be tested.
I’m done. TPBC
