Last week, Governor Abbott continued pushing ahead with reopening the state, allowing many places tin Texas to have up to 75% capacity. Gee, wonder what could go wrong.
Having been a little bit more than a month since reopening, this week in Texas has seen a surge in Coronavirus cases in Texas, having 7 days in a row of record breaking hospitalizations due to Coronavirus. In particular, this week also saw a staggering rise in Coronavirus cases beginning to take shape in San Antonio.
This lead to Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff to conclude that “It is by far the worst crisis we’ve had since it started.” Good times…
Meanwhile, San Antonio also broke another record by cracking the top five in a list, coming in at #4 for fastest growth of COVID-19 in metro areas.
San Antonio officials have determined that areas like bars and gyms are major contributors to the record breaking surge. Wonder if it could have anything to do with the fact that these places were recently allowed to reopen?
Meanwhile, the Governor of Texas continues to say that there is nothing to worry about, and the reason cases in Texas are rising due to increased testing in high concentrated areas like “Prisons and Nursing homes.” Abbott also says Texas still has “an abundant” hospital capacity. This might be considered true if the Mayor of San Antonio didn’t sorta contradict that at a press briefing earlier this week. And even if it was true, does that mean that Texas officials had forgotten or are just beginning to get data about on these areas despite the fact that one of the first major outbreaks in San Antonio happened in a nursing home. Whoops!
Despite Abbott and others in his administration having previously lectured Mayors to get with the reopening program, especially concerning masks, the Texas Governor is suddenly ok with mayors having to find creative ways to bypass his executive orders, which is like some weird reverse psychology BS wrapped in a riddle that probably shouldn’t be happening during a global pandemic. So while citizens of San Antonio can’t be fined for not wearing masks, businesses can be fined if people are not wearing masks and/or practicing social distancing. …ok?
Texas officials (and the Governor) decided that this was a good week to announce that they are definitely hopefully, probably having Texas schools open in the fall despite Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations rising to record levels. Texas teachers responded with a dignified “Go fuck yourself” and also added a “Hell No” in case it wasn’t clear enough.
You know shit’s getting bad when officials in Houston Texas are even considering another lockdown.
In non-COVID-19 news, Fifi the cat has taken to sometimes figuratively burying her head in the sand when she’s stressed by literally burying her head in dark places. That is when she’s not being bi-polar about needing some attencion a Fifi tiempo en la noche.
We have since sorta remedied this situation with catnip, although it would have been helpful if we bought something that lasted longer than a week.
In more non-COVID-19 news, The Goddess finally ditched her dumb smart phone and got a smart smart phone by way of a new iphone.
The Goddess is also finally living one of her many dreams by having a bird feeder, specifically one she created after watching some life-hack videos.
Work has been weird. I’ve been fortunate to continue working mostly from home, save for one day a week. In the last week in May, corporate said things will soon begin going back to normal, but due to the uncertainty of things in Texas, nothing is really happening. That uncertainty was thrown into more disarray when my place of employment saw it’s first official Coronavirus case. Oh fun. Supposedly, everyone who came into contact with the individual has been notified. I have heard nothing. So, good news?
Work has also seen our pay go back to normal to non-overtime levels again. Bummer. But, despite corporate promising in the last few weeks that hours would be going back to pre-COVID-19, they continue offering more shifts/hours, encouraging other people to take them.

Hey, remember when certain Texas officials said a failing economy is worse than the coronavirus? Seems like some small businesses in Texas may disagree, as well as some national chains, as well as some sports teams, as well as others in Texas feeling skeptical about returning to work. Whoops!
