20 Gratitudes with Attitude in 2020: #7 of 20
14 Days Left in 2020
2020 has seen me thinking about my sweet old grandparents, not to mention my aunt and uncle; the ones who shaped the formative years of my life on the weekends. Mostly, I find myself thinking about how I’m grateful I don’t have to worry about them catching COVID-19 because… they’re already dead. Another reason their deaths fill me with gratitude is because I also don’t have to worry which ones might have potentially been supportive of certain trending racists and/or fascists. I mean, if I could barely handle certain friends and their corona conspiracies, I know my mind could not have handled the sweet old relatives who used to let me eat as much candy and dessert as possible spouting off about BLM, liberals, and supporting the president in the year 2020. So… in a weird way, like Jack Nicholson’s Joker once said, “I’m glad [they’re] dead.”
PS - I’m fairly certain some of them did this anyway, the difference is that in the past I was much younger and unable to make cogent points about how misguided (or ignorant) some of their thoughts might have been. And also I was too busy eating dessert and watching cable TV because we couldn’t afford it at my parents house.
