After weeks of saying the rise in COVID-19 cases in Texas was due to testing and more recently for some reason the young residents of Texas, Gov. Abbott began to sound a little more worried than usual, calling the spike in cases “unacceptable.” Perhaps this came after hearing that cases in Texas/Houston could potentially top that of the entire country of Brazil, which is currently run by a leader who has actually done almost nothing to to stop the virus. Man, if only there were people out there who could have seen this coming.
Cases of COVID-19 in San Antonio continue to skyrocket as well. Because of this July 4th is cancelled, mostly.
Also earlier in the week, despite aids and others close to President Trump saying he was joking about slowing down testing because the rise in cases makes him and the U.S. look bad, the President came out and said he wasn’t joking because he “doesn’t kid”. To which most people replied, “Dude, we know you weren’t joking. Agonizing over numbers is pretty much on brand for you.”
The Great State of Texas just keeps breaking records, and a lot of them aren’t necessarily the good kind.
The City of Houston and it’s medical center, considered to be one of the largest the the world, reached 100% capacity in their ICU’s. That’s… not good.
In some good news, Texas grocery chain HEB continues to be a shining example of decency amidst the onslaught of stupidity in Texas by continuing to be more transparent than chain stores like Walmart or Target about stores where people contracted the virus and also increasing the pay of all employees, making it the largest pay increase in HEB history!
Later in the week, Texas Governor Abbott finally admits what’s been obvious all along, that Texas is in the midst of a massive COVID-19 outbreak (some have called it a second wave) and that he was pausing the reopening of the great state of Texas.
A mere day later, Gov. Abbott of Texas would essentially order a small “re-lockdown” of Texas, saying that bars had to close and restaurants could only be at 50% capacity instead of the 75% he approved of just a few weeks ago. This makes Texas the first state to reimpose a lockdown.
Headlines of in various papers began using words like catastrophic and apocalyptic, which is always a good way to calm the fears of people already feeling powerless and frustrated by everything going on.
San Antonio saw it’s largest one day jump in coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.
City officials from various parts of Texas have explained how Governor Abbott of Texas potentially created the worse case scenario in Texas. Sensing he might be in trouble, Abbott recently used his 20/20 hindsight to explain that if he he could go back to the beginning of reopening Texas, he would have only slowed down the reopening of bars. what!?
This past week saw Erika Paradise and I inundated with leftover sweet treats Baked Up by Alina, her sister who is just starting her online baked goods delivery business.
Fifi the cat has no idea there is a massive, potentially apocalyptic second wave of Coronavirus slamming the state of Texas. All she knows is that she is hungry between hours of 3-6am and that the amount of play we give her is never enough.
On Friday Vice President Mike Pence said he feels like the U.S. is “in a better place” with Coronavirus, though I think people in Arizona, Texas, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas and California might disagree.
As The Daily Beast predicted in mid-May, the United States is about to become the uncool kid at the world school due to the bungling and buffoonery from our leaders as the EU is set to exclude the U.S. from it’s list of safe travel destinations.
Remember when a few months ago certain Texas officials said a broken economy was worse than the coronavirus? Well, wonder how the economy will look if more places have to close down because Texas probably opened up too fast.
The double whammy of summer and re-awakening of COVID-19 in Texas has been making it difficult to write as often in the last few weeks.
Having said that, I did write about how I came to the conclusion the other day that wearing a mask is not normal, but neither is a global pandemic.
